Great spelling program for older kids

My son is 14 and finds spelling very difficult … We tried a bunch of the highly rated (and highly expensive) spelling programs through the last few years that were recommended through homeschooling groups. Not one program even came close to this! It started out with small words but because it was considered a "typing program" he didn't feel discouraged … I'm so glad I tried this for him because his spelling improved immensely!

What are the advantages of typing for children who struggle with spelling?

They can...

  • Engage multiple senses at the same time
Seeing and hearing combines with the tactile sensory feedback of typing to help words stick.
  • Build muscle memory for correct spelling
Repeatedly typing words helps “lock in” correct letter sequences. Over time, spelling becomes more automatic because the fingers remember the patterns, not just the brain.
  • Strengthen literacy with phonics-based learning
A phonics-based curriculum enhances decoding and spelling skills, offering a structured approach to literacy development.
  • Access spell check and revise written work
Writing on the computer opens up access to spelling feedback and makes it easier to revise written work - no crossed out text or messy erasure marks.
  • Boost self-esteem and confidence
Positive feedback from typing activities can significantly improve self-esteem and motivation, especially for those with a history of educational challenges.
